Frequently Asked Questions

Account and Data

How does UpNote store my data?

UpNote is designed to work reliably without having to sign up for an account. If you do not login, your notes only stay locally in your device. If you want to sync your notes across all devices, you can sign up for an account, and UpNote will stores your notes on a central server so that the notes can be synced to other devices.

You have total control of your data and we would never access your data or sell your data to any third party. For more information on your data privacy, please read our Privacy Policy.

Where is UpNote server? Is it secured?

UpNote is storing data on Firebase (which is part of Google) server. Firebase platform has been certified under major privacy and security standards, and fully supports EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). Firebase encrypts your data in transit using HTTPS and encrypts your data at rest. You could find out more in depth at We also take great care to make sure your data is safe and only you can access it.

Does UpNote support storing data on iCloud?

UpNote is designed to work on all platforms including Windows, Linux and Android. However since iCloud only supports Apple devices at the moment, UpNote cannot support iCloud for syncing notes.

Since Firebase is a Google service, can Google use my note content for ads purpose?

Data in Firebase is not shared or used by Google for advertising purposes. Many companies are using cloud providers like Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud Platform to process user data, and these services are separate from the service owner's primary business. UpNote does not include Google Analytics in our applications, so your activity will not be tracked on any platform.

Does UpNote support end-to-end encryption?

End-to-End Encryption (E2EE) is an advanced security method for encrypting and decrypting data and is designed to protect highly confidential information. Due to implementation complexity, UpNote does not currently have a plan to support E2EE. If you want to store sensitive information like passwords or credit card numbers, it is recommended that you use a password manager application that is specifically designed to encrypt sensitive information.

Does UpNote support multi-factor authentication (MFA)?

Yes, you can use the "Sign in with Google" or "Sign in with Apple" method when creating or signing into your UpNote account. These methods support MFA by default.

If you currently sign in to your account with email and password, you can switch your sign-in method to “Sign in with Google” or “Sign in with Apple” to use MFA (please go to Settings > My Account > Manage Sign-in Method). For security purposes, please sign in again on any other device after switching your sign-in method.

How do I change my email or password?

You may change your email or password any time by going to settings screen and navigating to the account section. For security reason, changing your email and password may log you out of other devices, and you will need to re-login with the new email and password.

Do I need to verify my email address?

Verifying your email address will help secure your account. This will prevent others from using your email to register for an account and help to recover your account if you accidentally forget the password.

How do I delete my account?

To delete your account, please sign in to UpNote app on any platform, and go to Settings > Account > Delete Account. This action will delete your account and all associated data immediately from the server and cannot be undone.

How do I change from monthly subscription to life-time upgrade?

You may change from monthly subscription to life-time upgrade from the Premium screen (go to Settings → Premium). The app will first ask you to cancel your existing subscription to avoid being double charged, and then it will let you buy a lifetime upgrade.

How long does my lifetime plan last? Does it really mean “lifetime”?

We will honor the lifetime license. Even in the case we need to switch to fully subscription model, our lifetime premium users won't be affected and will enjoy all the upcoming feature updates and benefits without extra charges.

I don’t see an option to upgrade on Windows and Linux apps. What can I do?

Upgrading to Premium is not yet possible on Windows and Linux apps. However if you have a Mac, iOS or Android device, you may upgrade to premium there and sync your premium with your Windows and Linux apps.

I’m concerned about UpNote’s sustainability, especially with its lifetime plan option.

We constantly optimize our resources and the cost of UpNote so that we can offer lifetime licenses at an affordable price to our users. We believe that as long as we receive support from our users, we will be able to sustain the business. If you know any friends who may enjoy UpNote, please help us spread the word.
